The venue lighting and
grant funding guide
Grant funding for sports infrastructure is finite, competitive and time-bound. The difference between a venue that gets its full lighting upgrade and one that gets half of it is rarely the size of the grant.
Four things most submissions get wrong
WHAT IS INSIDE
What assessors look for, how to scope an upgrade before you apply, the compliance evidence your submission needs, and the programme dates worth planning around.
Written by the team that designs, builds and maintains the assets — not by a marketing department.

How to scope before you apply, so the budget holds
Which standards your venue has to be built to
01
Scoping before you apply
Ground conditions and existing infrastructure decide what a pole schedule really costs. Submissions built on assumptions get revised upward after funding is locked, and the shortfall lands on the club.
02
The compliance evidence
Photometric modelling to AS 2560, obtrusive light controlled to AS/NZS 4282, and a post-installation illuminance survey. What each one is, and at which stage an assessor expects to see it.
03
Keep the poles, or replace them
Not every LED conversion needs new poles. Where the existing structures are compliant and fit for purpose the conversion costs a fraction of a rebuild; where they are not, the budget has to carry the infrastructure. Honest costing of both.
04
Incentives on top of the grant
In NSW, an LED conversion can draw Energy Savings Scheme incentives that come off the project cost rather than the grant. What qualifies, and what it is worth.

Council and facility managers
Scoping a venue against a capital plan, and needing costings that survive contact with a tender.
Club committees
Volunteers writing a submission around a day job, with one shot at the round and no in-house engineer.
State associations and peak bodies
Setting a standard across many venues, and needing one consistent basis for comparing them.
